This book may help children bond greater with their grandparents. It gives full responsibility to the child and offers countless activities children can do with their grandparents that involve all physical ability. There isn't any dialogue that goes on between the child and the elder, but it shows a lot of expression on the characters' faces when the child takes the lead and shows their grandmother love. I think this is important as sometimes dialogue can in reality be difficult especially if a grandparent has lost their speaking ability.

As a young babysitter you know that grandmas need special care and attention, especially when there are sleepovers involved. You've got to keep them busy! First, you need to include all of the not-to-be-missed things to do at the park. Later, you will want to let your grandma choose some of the grandma-friendly crafts. Dinner can be tricky. Look for tips in this book on making the meal appetizing and delicious. Once your grandma is all tuckered out, help her choose the best spot to sleep. Don't forget to make her feel at home with a super-fun secret bedtime routine! Adults, Reagan's delightful book captures the heart of family and encourages intergenerational relationship building. I recommend sharing "How to Babysit a Grandma" and the companion volume, How to Babysit a Grandpa, with every young babysitter you know.

Summary:Mom and Dad drop off a little girl at her Grandma’s house. She is there to babysit her grandma and spend the night. The little girl goes thorugh a step-by-step list of all the things you need to do when babysitting a grandma. She includes instructions on the types of food to eat, what you should play with a grandma, and how to tuck her into bed. The book is a clever point-of-view shift to that of the little girl who thinks she is really there to watch her grandma for a night. This book is appropriate for grades K to 3rd. Activity: Have the students create their own “how-to” manual switching points-of-view. Students could write from the student’s perspective: “how to keep a teacher busy” or from a patient’s perspective: “how to give a doctor a check-up” or from the perspective of a dog: “how to take a human on a walk.” Students may need to be given ideas of situations to write about. In this book, the audience will read about all the things the grand-daughter has planned during her time with grandma. Roles are reversed and the young girl is in charge of “babysitting” her grandma and planning all kinds of activities to keep her occupied such as: playing at the park and reminding grandma to pump her legs on the swings, making all kinds foods with sprinkles, and star gazing at night. This is a heart-warming book that kids will love.Activity: Ask students, if they could “babysit” anyone in the world, who would it be? Then, they should make a list of all the activities they would need to have planned so as to keep that person occupied. Activities should be tailored to the person they have chosen. For example, if they chose a favorite singer, one activity could be karaoke. Reagan, J., & Wildish, L. (2014). How to Babysit a grandma. New York: Alfred A. Knopf.

How to Babysit a Grandma is a super cute story to read to children. I love the concept of the story and all the fun ways to effectively babysit a grandma. The illustrations were absolutely stunning and colorful - it all brought the author's words to life really well. This was a funny and adorable how-to guide that belongs on every bookshelf.

"When you babysit a grandma, if you're lucky it's a sleepover at her house" And so begins this companion guide to "How to Babysit a Grandpa." Proceed to tell Grandma all the fun things you have planned to keep her busy such as go to the park, do yoga and baking cookies. Cute story, great as a mentor text, but again, no diverse characters.

Picture book. Such a cute story about taking care of grandma. I think that adults probably would understand the premise more than children, though.

It's so much fun being a grandma, and my granddaughter definitely babysits ME when she comes over to the house. This is a great book to share with the grandkids (or grandparents, as it would seem).

The 3yo loves this one right now and wants to read it over and over. It's got some very cute parts, but we definitely find ourselves wishing she would choose a different book.

I liked this book but at the same I didn't. I found it really cute how the grandma and the little girl sort of switched rules and the girl babysat her grandma and I found it silly how the little girl did all the stuff that she would want to do if her grandma babysat her. On the other hand, I really didn't like how the author set this book up. In my opinion, I feel like some children could get confused a little bit.

How to Babysit a Grandma by Jean Reagan is more of a guide to a sleepover with grandma than a story, but still a good read. This book is full of good ideas for fun things to do with your grandma. I liked this book because it reminded me of when I was young and would go to my grandma’s house for the weekend. It was so much fun and made me think of those good times.I would use this book to encourage the students in my classroom to spend more time with their grandparents, and I think it would be fun to read on Grandparent’s Day.
