Hollywood Games is a puzzle that begins with a tough but vulnerable cop trying to put her life back together. Add in a hyperactive canine partner who’s already sired a love-puppy named Bubba, a new homicide partner who is allergic to dead bodies, and Kate’s meddling best friends, Natalie and Mo, who think they’re the world’s greatest private detectives. The puzzle pieces are scattered when a high-profile realtor is found murdered, floating in his hot tub, and his partner looks good for the crime. But Kate isn’t convinced and works the case until she realizes the killing might have ties to the victim’s many love interests and the largest gang in Hollywood. The final pieces of the puzzle come into play when Kate’s love life takes an unexpected turn, she has to move on short notice with her friends into a spooky dilapidated mansion owned by a deceased actor, and the city is threatened with a gang war. Join Kate as she struggles to repair a personal life that’s gone off the rails while she tries to solve a crime with more twists and turns than a street in the Hollywood Hills. Throw in equal parts of humor and suspense, and you’ve got Hollywood Games, the seventh novel in the funny, crazy, wild lives of Detective Kate Sexton and her canine partner, Bernie. A very enjoyable, fast paced good murder mystery.characters are fully defined with their own unique personality traits. Each character is integral to the story line and there are no unnecessary passages. It goes along at a good clip and the story evolves as it should. Not too complicated to follow and the story has a beginning, middle and ending that all makes sense. And of course there is the dog. Gotta love a book with a dog named Bernie. I did love this book and will become a follower of M.Z. Kelly.

Good beginningStarted out ok. Interesting. Went downhill fast. Too many characters that we knew next to nothing about. Hard to keep them straight.

This book was just a little too zany for me, a few too many quick turns in the plot and I don't know that I like her crazy friends all that much. Things are just a little bit too weird. However it was entertaining and I saw the next volume was free so I just grabbed it. It's definitely a fun series to read.

I have never read anything from M. Z. Kelly before, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love mysteries, but I especially love funny & witty mysteries. The characters' interaction in this book are as funny as some of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovitch. The main character is a young female detective with some very weird friends & roommates. Even the people they come in contact with add to the comic relief of an intense murder investigation that takes turn after turn. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a little humor mixed in their mysteries. I will most likely try to go back to the first book and read them all. They are a series, but each book will stand alone.

I MISSED CHARLIE, I KNOW WE ALL HAVE TO RETIRE (I did) LIFE GOES ON. JUDGING FROM ALL THE THINGS I'VE HEARD/READ I WONDER IS ANYONE IN HOLLYWOOD SANE? WHY ANYBODY WANTS TO LIVE THERE, ITS FULL OF ARTIFICIAL AND REALLY CRAZY PEOPLE. I'VE READ SEVERAL BOOKS IN THIS SERIES I STILL DON'T CARE FOR THE WRITING STYLE, THIS ONE WAS NOT AS GOOD AS THE OTHERS TO ME. I FOUND IT TOO SLOW AND SO SILLY. I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL READ ANYMORE I'M UNDECIDED. I PROBABLY WILL AFTER I STAY AWAY FOR AWHILE MY CURIOSITY WILL GET THE BEST OF ME. ;D THIS IS NOT WHAT I WOULD CALL A THRILLER EITHER.

'Hollywood Games' is another great book in 'A Hollywood Alphabet Series'. This series gets better and better. I loved the storyline and how it played out. I couldn't put this book down. Full of action, suspense, thrills, a ton of humor and some questionable circumstances. I love how Kate gets herself into the craziest scenarios. Her friends are a riot. I love the characters. They are definitely a colorful bunch. M.Z. Kelly is very creative when it comes to his stories. I can't wait to read the next book. A must add to your tbr list.

I have enjoyed reading MZ's Hollywood Series, but this one missed the mark. There were too many villain's in the soup and the ending needed a scored card to keep track of who did what to who. Also the humor I've enjoyed in the series, just wasn't there. Maybe I'm just in a funk, but Hollywood Games was a let down from previous novels in the series. I will pick up the next novel, just because I've enjoyed MZ's novels.

"A fast-paced game with too many players on the field"After I read and reviewed the first book 'Assassin' I was eager to read another from the series. Although the Kate Sexton character I enjoyed from that first book was still there, she was joined by a menagerie of weirdos that detracted from the main thrust of the plot. There was too much going on. Sometimes less is more.

NyahhhThis book is not as entrancing as the rest of the series and the plot felt prettiest. The addition of the gentlemen in the basement is just a little contrived and adds distracting superfluous characters to the story.

Loved the bookNothing like a great female cop with an attitude and a dog. The story was great and all the characters were funny and outrageous. Doesn't matter what order you read them in, they are all wonderful.

Too many subplotsIf you want a book that will while away a lot of time, here it is. Not excellent but not bad. Some humorous scenes help to lighten the story from time to time while you try to follow the main plot when you can.

So convoluted with too many characters! And I hated that ending, even worse than Jack being killed.

This book was really good! Possible gang war, a setup, misdirection, murder, blackmail, you get it all in this book! I highly recommend this book!

Definitely the funniest book of the series thus far. It was a nice break from the tension of some of the earlier book plots.

Perhaps it was my own distractions while reading this book sporadically, but this one didn't gel in the end. I like the characters, but the plot was convoluted and the resolution just too contrived.

Another great oneOnce again Kelly has nailed it. Hollywood should look into making these books into a TV series. I can picture different stars for the roles.
