A MODERN MISS MARPLEReading this reminded me of the Agatha Christie books and her elderly lady detective Miss Marple, only in this book, Mic the heroine has an 82 year old sidekick of royal decent. The characterisation was excellent and I enjoyed many of the descriptive passages, especially the character who goes mad (I won’t say for fear of a spoiler). I would not really class this as a medical thriller in the genre of Robin Cook, more a detective story. Rather predictable conclusion but all the loose ends are tied up nicely. An easy read I enjoyed.

This was an exciting, fun-to-read mystery. Michaela retired from the police force and opened an Irish Pub. Angel is her retied police dog. Dottie is an actual Italian countess who loves to practice her sleuthing skills with Michaela. This story is full of action, kidnapping, and human trafficking. Just what you need in a thriller that keeps you guessing. Judith Lucci has done it again with a well-written book full of wonderful characters. I definitely recommend this book to mystery lovers.

An engaging and beautifully written thriller which kept me company during a 10hours intercontinental flight. A real page turner which has a lot of elements typical of the successful mystery series.

There were a couple of glaring holes in the plot that made the book a disappointment. Why didn’t Allison simply call for help when she had access to Dr Dudes cell after beating the crap out of him? If Allison had a beacon on her the whole time, why did it suddenly turn on at the end of the book? I understand the importance of the having the book end in a chicken barn, and having Allison find refuge there was helpful for the ending, however the story needs refinement to close the holes. Also, the book had many spelling and syntax errors that could use a clean up.

I was given a kindle e book for a review. I found this book to be a fabulous read. An added bonus was a German Shepard as a character. I enjoyed the main character Michaela who is a retired police officer that purchased a bar and still solves crimes. I would like to read the rest of the series.

Received this as a free book. First time for this author. With a variety of characters, the story revolves about human trafficking. With some humor involved, it is a engrossing story line.

Edge-of-Your Seat ReadThe Case of Dr. Dude is the debut novel in Judith Lucci’s Michaela McPherson Mysteries series. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I found Ms. Lucci to be very talented in creating suspense and tension with her written words. She has written an intricately woven tale with plenty of action and suspense that kept me engaged from the beginning of the book until the end. This book is a fast-paced page-turner that revolves around the despicable people and organized international gangs who are involved with human trafficking of young women and brings danger with each twist and turn. I am looking forward to more Michaela McPherson mysteries and would recommend this book to readers who enjoy an action packed crime fiction thriller.Michaela (Mic) McPherson retired Richmond, Virginia homicide detective who has opened a restaurant and bar, Biddy’s McPherson’s but she still likes to investigate crimes and often works as a private investigator along with her friend, Dorothy (Dottie) Borghese, and her retired police dog, Angel. Dottie is in her 80’s and an armchair sleuth who loves to solve mysteries, especially with Mic. When Dottie’s good friend, Margaret Massie, is frantic over the disappearance of her diabetic granddaughter, Allison, Dottie convinces Mic to help find her. Allison, recently finished dental hygienist school at VCU and had a job interview with Dr. Nicholas Smirkowitz a/k/a Dr. Dude, Richmond’s premier cosmetic dentist on the afternoon of her disappearance. Mic contacts her old boss, Lt. Steve Stoddard, and he suggests that she talk with Slade McKane, who works in vice. Mic learns that numerous complaints have been lodged against Dr. Dude, but the investigation lead nowhere and she is determined to find out why. As the investigation progresses and Mic and her team try to find Allison, they discover heinous people and unthinkable crimes.

Judith Lucci, the author of all the Alexandra Destephano medical thrillers set in the "Big Easy" aka, New Orleans, has just released a new mystery. The Case of Dr. Dude features retired homicide detective, Michaela McPherson. Her good friend, Countess Dorothy Borghase tells her about a young woman who's gone missing soon after interviewing at a well-known local dentist's office. Michaela's intrigued. Maybe, in part, because she never liked the self-appointed "dentist to the stars." Or because she got creepy vibes when she was a patient at his office years before. It could be it's the cop in her, retired or not, sensing that something is terribly wrong! Before you know it, Mic and her friend Dottie, with the help of retired canine officer, Angel, are on the case. The Case of Dr. Dude deals with a weighty subject--human trafficking. You can imagine the kind of bad guys involved in such a business. That includes Russian mobsters and a host of other ruthless villains who will stop at nothing to keep their lucrative underground enterprise afloat. This fast-paced page-turner brings danger at each new twist and turn in the road. I'm betting you'll enjoy reading The Case of Dr. Dude to find out for yourself how Mic handles herself when up against a well-connected network of bad guys that reach beyond U.S. borders to ply their trade. Will Mic's twenty years of service in the police force be enough to outrun and outwit the masterminds behind these heinous crime? Will they find the missing young woman? I won't tell what happens but I am looking forward to more Michaela McPherson mysteries!

I Liked This Book!!This is my introduction to Judith Lucci and the pleasure is all mine. The Case of Dr Dude is full of interesting characters and one awesome, retired K 9 named Angel. I won't tell you about the characters because discovering new characters during a first read is all part of the fun that comes with reading. I always feel sorry when people say they don't read because there are wonderful worlds out there just waiting to wow you.I will tell you that the plot of this story is fast moving with surprises that kept me turning pages long past my bedtime. Basically, it's about the Russian mob that is working in America to kidnap girls and sell them into slavery in other countries. The girls are auctioned off to the highest bidder without a care of how or with who they wind up. The pretty young blondes are the most desirable to the bidders. A single girl can bring in a million dollars from the right bidder.I really liked Michaela McPherson. She is a retired Richmond, Virginia homicide detective and the owner of the most popular Irish bar in town. Mic takes on some private investigator cases and works with Richmond PD to solve crimes. She has an 82 year old sidekick who is all about kicking a** first and taking names later. Dottie is a hoot and sometimes even saves the day.I hope you will give Judith Lucci's writing a try. I know I will be reading the next book in this series real soon.

The Queen of NOLA Medical Thrillers, Judith Lucci, starts a new series with ‘The Case of Dr. Dude” and it has all the promise of being a new bestseller for her avid fans. Set in Richmond, Virginia, the series features an ex-cop turned Private Investigator, Michaela McPherson, whose informal partnership with an ageing Italian noblewoman, Countess Dorothy (Dottie) Borghese, and backed-up by her retired police dog Angel, make for an intriguing and heart-warming trio that tackle the most brutal of crimes. In this first novel of the series the issue is the kidnapping and selling of young girls into the white slave trade. The author’s impeccable research shows on every page as her protagonists delve into the mystery of the missing women and take on the Russian mafia in this fast-paced thriller. The skill with which Lucci has placed her readers on the streets of New Orleans in her medical thrillers is present here too and we quickly feel at home in Richmond, as the tale unfolds. The story is solid; the villains despicable, and the protagonists people you will instantly empathise with in this complex tale. Mic and Dottie find themselves in a race against the clock to save the life of the victims and you will find your heart thumping with excitement as the story barrels along to its finale. A superb read for all lovers of outstanding crime thrillers.

A Great Read by an Accomplished Storyteller. The first book of the new series starts off like a cozy mystery with light, humorous narration, but the story soon turns into an action thriller with a chilly setting as the victims of kidnapping and human trafficking endure their fearful ordeals at the hands of unscrupulous, stop-at-nothing criminals. The story is nicely researched and easy to read, the plot spellbinding, the characters convincing. The guys with the white hats are well drawn, with a touch of Agatha Christie humour, and realistically woven into the story. The black hats guys are spine-chilling and sinister. And Dr Dude is something else! A classical bad guy. The confrontation between good and bad is well done and adds suspense and depth to the story. The chosen background to this book of brutal kidnapping and gruesome crimes of human trafficking are every day aspects of our modern world but somehow never seem to get into the popular press. This story leaves the reader wondering why?A compelling story. Highly recommended.

Love the authors medical thrillers and was happy to see the start of a new series with an ex-cop turned private detective, Michaela McPherson as the lead crime solver. In this story she joins forces with an aging Countess called Dorothy Borghase whose alliance I hope will continue. Set in Richmond and not New Orleans as her other series, we get a good view of how the police solve their crimes east of the Mississippi. This is one of many thrillers now that I have read involving organized international gangs that procure young women to be used as sex slaves and if the author's quite obvious detailed research is anything to go by, it is a bigger problem than most people know about. The read was edge of the seat and didn't shy away from the gruesome nature of the crimes. The combination of Michaela, the countess and the police (oh, and the retired police dog, Angel) is a wonderfully satisfying mix where they all come at the problem from their own distinct individual angles. I look forward to the next one.

I loved itI loved the trio of ex-cop turned Private Investigator, Michaela McPherson, an aging Italian noblewoman, Countess Dorothy (Dottie) Borghese, and a retired police dog Angel, combining as the sleuths who aid the police in this new crime fiction thriller series. The crimes are of the most despicable nature, and I found myself engaged and caring what happened to the victims and willing for their release from danger.Author, Judith Lucci’s writing style is easy to read, enjoyable and well researched. Medical, and police operational details are always accurate, and the author’s extensive knowledge of her surroundings is conveyed to the reader. I can easily visualize every scene. My pulse raced as the featured victim fought with the antagonist, and I could see and smell the interval areas where the captured women were held, and the outdoors, the snow. It’s visual writing, I loved it, such was the skill of Lucci’s action packed writing.

***** A BANG OF A TALEHaving read Judith Lucci before, I knew I was in for a nail-biting, page-turning ride; true to form, “DR. DUDE” did not disappoint! We’ve all heard about human trafficking and all the hapless girls it affects. But just suppose the “Front” for this horrific operation is a well-known, well-liked member of society? That’s where the two main characters come in: Mic, a retired detective/new bar owner and her dear friend, eighty-year-old Dottie, a self- pronounced “armchair sleuth.” They make a great, charming duo, as they try and rescue the latest victim, a diabetic hygienist. Now, add to the brew, police politics, a dentist who gets in over his head, and his psychotic assistant, and you get a book that had me hooked from the very first bang-of-a-scene opener to the very last page. 5*I was given a review copy for my honest opinion.

WOW! I've read all of Lucci's other books (I'm a Judith Lucci junkie) and like her New Orleans medical mystery thrillers, she stayed true to her craft in this one. This one is based in Richmond, VA and like her other books, she gives you precise geographic details, which I love. You have the endearing 'dream team' as I call them - the sleuths who work the crime. Michalea, Dottie and Angel (the canine). They work their magic on the situation. There is also the Russian mob who is deep into human trafficking, a creepy dentist (Dr. Dude), his whacko assistant Tilda and a cast of ex wives. Put them all together and you have the perfect setting for murder. And by murder, I mean a 'Gee, I didn't see THAT coming' murder. Hang on people. This one will keep you turning pages up to the very end.

Judith Lucci did not disappoint with The Case of Dr. Dude, an action thriller. I enjoyed the variety of the characters, from an ex-cop turned private investigator, an Italian noblewoman, and even Angel, the retired police dog that you cannot help but love. It is a brutal thriller with a team of characters you cannot help but love. The novel is about a serious issue of selling young girls into slave trade and you can easily tell Lucci did her research with this one. It is shocking until the very end but when you finish you will definitely be more educated on the topic at hand. I can't wait to read the next book!

An action thriller in which, Michaela McPherson and her partner, Countess Dorothy (Dottie) Borghese, and a police dog, Angel, tackle the kidnapping and trafficking of young girls. This is a touchy subject matter which Michaela takes on with her usual doggedly determination to bring the perpetrator to justice. But it took all her investigative skills along with her knowledge of law enforcement to solve this one. The author kept the suspense building until the end.

A Richmond VA. setting has a Retired Police Detective and now owner of an Irish Bar back in the saddle investigating the disappearance of a young girl. Joining here is her friend an and 80s something "Aristocrat" who loves to solve mysteries. Together with a friend in the Department they confront a celebrity Dentist who is up to his ears with the Russian mob and their human trafficking business. Not bad tale but more careful editing and proofing needed.

Ripped from the headlinesSleazy doctors, kidnapping, sex slaves...we can read about it really happening in the news. Lucci captures it all.(This story sometimes gets a little bogged down in nonessential details, but some readers like a lot of detail.)Enjoy the ride fellow readers.

A great read!!I loved this story of retired detective Michaela Ferguson. She is smart, gutsy, and caring. Along with her retired police dog and an old friend she helps to find a missing young woman. They uncover a much bigger problem than kidnapping and that's not counting the crazy woman who is throwing a wrench in the works of the good AND bad guys!!!

“The Case of Dr Dude” gets right into the action from the beginning. The author has done a good job of creating the scenes and settings that lead you into the plot. There are some great characters that come across as realistic and the bad guys are genuinely menacing! This is an enticing Thriller/Detective story.
