The English Village Reviews
It is a sad story with a happy ending, more or less. I want to reiterate Muir's view that there never truly was a "golden age" for English villages. Since pre-Saxon days (and even before then), the English village has faced countless threats such as enclosure, forced dissolution, plague, and war. The poor villagers never had a moment's rest. As soon as one great trouble ended, another was in its stead. A good book that, though slightly outdated now, still remains relevant.
